The Foundation for the Finnish Cancer Institute (FCI) aims to enhance and promote high-quality cancer research in Finland and thus contribute to cancer prevention and treatment. To achieve this, FCI offers researcher positions for different career stages, organizes high-level international symposia, and facilitates cancer research in general in Finland.

two 5-year Research Professor positions
We are seeking for dedicated and enthusiastic scientists in order to support their careers in any area of cancer research. Eligible applicants have a doctorate degree and post-doctoral experience without a current professorship, tenure track position, or any comparative position in another organization. The successful applicants demonstrate an independent line of excellent scientific research together with an exciting research plan to be executed in Finland during the 5-year position. A position combining clinical work up to 50% may be considered.
The 5-year fixed-term contract involves employment at the FCI with a salary of € 6500/month and is to commence on January 1st, 2027. The contract includes salary but no additional funding for materials. The positions are named Pink Ribbon Research Professor.

Evaluation criteria and decisions
FCI’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) reviews and short-lists the applicants against the following criteria:
Scientific quality, significance, and potential impact of the proposal
The feasibility of the proposal in terms of the quality of the research environment, resources, status of the project, and plans for the 5-year period
Suitability of the applicant for the position including previous research merits considering the applicant’s career stage
Conflicts of interest of reviewers are determined according to the Research Council of Finland policies in disqualification of a member of a decision-making body.
After short-listing, the highest-ranked applications are forwarded for evaluation by international experts. Based on the assessments and rankings provided by the external reviewers and Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), the FCI Board of Trustees makes the final funding decisions. Outcomes are expected in late June, at which time all applicants will be notified. Short-listed applicants will receive the evaluations from the international experts, while non-short-listed applicants will not receive feedback on their submissions.
