The Foundation for the Finnish Cancer Institute (FCI) aims to enhance and promote high-quality cancer research in Finland and thus contribute to cancer prevention and treatment. To achieve this, FCI offers researcher positions for different career stages, organizes high-level international symposia and facilitates cancer research in general in Finland.
With the support from Cancer Foundation Finland and K. Albin Johansson Foundation, we now invite applications for
Three 2-year postdoctoral cancer researcher positions
We are seeking for dedicated and enthusiastic scientists to support their careers in any area of cancer research. Eligible applicants have obtained their doctorate no more than five years* prior to the application submission date. They present recent interesting observations and an exciting research plan executed in Finland for the duration of the 2-year position. The positions involve employment at FCI with a salary of € 3500/month and are to commence on January 1, 2024. The positions are named Pink Ribbon Cancer Researcher or K. Albin Johansson Cancer Researcher.
*) Career breaks e.g., due to parental leave, military/civil service, severe illness, or full-time care of an ill family member are not counted

The application period is from September 1 to September 30, 2023. Applications are made on a web form. Required attachments in PDF format are
Research plan (max 5 pages including introduction, aims, implementation, methods, ethical aspects, timetable, study group, estimated budget and references)
Curriculum vitae (CV, max 2 pages)
List of publications including the journal and DOI/link to the publication. Also, highlight three of these publications and describe why you prefer them and what was your role in those studies.
Attachments should be submitted as a single pdf file in the order of research plan, CV and list of publications. Name the file FCI_firstname_lastname

Evaluation criteria and decisions
FCI’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) evaluates the applications against the following criteria:
- Scientific quality, significance, and potential impact of the proposal
- The feasibility of the proposal in regard to the quality of the research environment, accessible resources and the current status of the project during the proposed 2-year period
- Suitability of the applicant for the position including previous research merits considering the applicant’s career stage
Conflicts of interest of reviewers are determined according to the Research Council of Finland policies in disqualification of a member of a decision-making body.
The FCI’s Board of Trustees makes decisions based on the evaluation and ranking by the SAB. Decisions are expected in early November at which time all applicants are informed. No feedback on the applications will be provided to the applicants.
